SPANISH Doctors confirm they have found cure for HIV

SPANISH Doctors confirm they have found cure for HIV
Doctors in Barcelona, Spain believe they have found the cure to HIV – the AIDS-causing virus that affects the lives of more than 34 million people worldwide, according to WHO.

By using blood transplants from the umbilical cords of individuals with a genetic resistance to HIV, Spanish medical professionals believe they can treat the virus, having proven the procedure successful with one patient.

A 37-year-old man from Barcelona, who had been infected with the HIV virus in 2009, was cured of the condition after receiving a transplant of blood.

While unfortunately the man later died from cancer just three years later, having developed lymphoma, the Spanish medical team is still hugely encouraged by what it considers to be a breakthrough in the fight against HIV and related conditions, according to the Spanish news source El Mundo.

Doctors in Barcelona initially attempted the technique using the precedent of Timothy Brown, an HIV patient who developed leukemia before receiving experimental treatment in Berlin, the Spanish news site The Local reported.

Brown was given bone marrow from a donor who carried the resistance mutation from HIV. After the cancer treatment, the HIV virus had also disappeared.

According to The Local, the CCR5 Delta 35 mutation affects a protein in white blood cells and provides an estimated one percent of the human population with high resistance to infection from HIV.

Spanish doctors attempted to treat the lymphoma of the so-called “Barcelona patient” with chemotherapy and an auto-transplant of the cells, but were unable to find him a suitable bone marrow.

“We suggested a transplant of blood from an umbilical cord but from someone who had the mutation because we knew from ‘the Berlin patient’ that as well as [ending] the cancer, we could also eradicate HIV,” Rafael Duarte, the director of the Haematopoietic Transplant Programme at the Catalan Oncology Institute in Barcelona, told The Local.

Prior to the transplant, a patient’s blood cells are destroyed with chemotherapy before they are replaced with new cells, incorporating the mutation which means the HIV virus can no longer attach itself to them. For the Barcelona patient, stem cells from another donor were used in order to accelerate the regeneration process.

Eleven days after the transplant, the patient in Barcelona experienced recovery. Three months later, it was found that he was clear of the HIV virus.

Despite the unfortunate death of the patient from cancer, the procedure has led to the development of an ambitious project that is backed by Spain’s National Transplant Organization.

March 2016 will mark the world’s first clinical trials of umbilical cord transplants for HIV patients with blood cancers.

Javier Martinez, a virologist from the research foundation Irsicaixa, stressed that the process is primarily designed to assist HIV patients suffering from cancer, but “this therapy does allow us to speculate about a cure for HIV,” he added.

Sp. Saraki Secretly Send the Budget Back to Buhari Out of Fear

Sp. Saraki Secretly Send the Budget Back to Buhari Out of Fear
You know how PDP and APC guys are flying different claims these days. This is from a PDP man...

Where is our 2016 Budget?
It’s 7.49am today, the 4th of January, 2016, and I woke up from sleep with the buzzing sound of my phone. I was still half asleep when I reluctantly picked the call with a weak “hello”.

The caller on the other end shouted, “Deji, you are still sleeping? Nigeria is going down and you are sleeping. Are you aware that Buhari withdrew the budget he presented to National Assembly from Saraki, and Saraki gave it to him out of fear?

Deji, as I speak to you, the National Assembly does not have the budget any more. Saraki and Dogara are confused. They could not stand up for our democracy. They have failed our nation. Deji, you people need to speak up before this man destroys our nation”.

How can a President present a country’s budget and take it back? I remember when a dear sister was so happy and optimistic that the 2016 budget was already out before the year started and said “even with ‘world class economist’ the budget usually come long after the year had started”.

Why is the Senate President mute?
You will recall that Nigerians started an online campaign tagged #BudgetOfYams immediately the breakdown of the 2016 budget appeared on the internet which was posted by an online organization @BudgItNg and further confirmed by the Budget Office of the Federal Government.

Suddenly, it appears they have sneaked the budget back to the villa for ‘cleansing’ and corrections after public outcry by Nigerians in what they termed a budget of waste and recklessness. A budget the PDP has termed a fraud that requires a daily borrowing of N5billion Naira to fund for the next one year.

When the budget was analyzed and criticized for not being a reflection of the present economic realities, worshippers of president Buhari resorted to name calling and hurling of insults in the cyberspace. They said their god can never do any wrong, that he can never make a mistake and knew every content of the budget even when the president through his media chat had hinted he has no full idea about the contents of the 2016 budget.

The question here is, who wrote that budget for president Buhari and convinced him to go and read it before the National Assembly and the whole world? Can we say president Buhari is truly in-charge of this nation if indeed the 2016 budget was written without his consent and input and given to him to just go and read? What is happening to our nation? Every foreign investor, business owner, stakeholders have the right to be afraid as things stand. Will it be right now to call our genuine concerns on the issue of budget as “wailing”? Now that the truth is out suggesting president Buhari withdrew the budget back because he could not believe some of the contents he was told were in it at the Media Chat, are we still “Wailing Wailers”?

In a country where even Banks are now struggling to stay afloat, business owners are being forced to close shop, foreign investors are leaving the country, and our economy almost sliding into recession, we need a president who knows the issues and not a president who does not even know the contents of the budget he read before the whole world.

Where are the human rights activists in Nigeria? Where are all our learned men and women who spoke “big grammar” of “Change” during the elections and challenged every actions and inactions of former president Goodluck Jonathan? How can the president of a democratic nation withdraw a budget he read before all Nigerians at the hallowed chambers of our National Assembly in broad-day light but withdrew same in the middle of the night through the back door? Where is the truth president Buhari claimed to have during the elections? Where is the conscience of our Senate President, Bukola Saraki?

Dear Bukola Saraki and Dogara, where is our budget? Where are those who boasted during Goodluck Jonathan term as president that they were the best lawyers in Nigeria? Where are all the patriots who spoke up for “Change”? Where are those very loud and vocal Nigerians in the international community? Where are those who usually scream impunity during the tenure of Goodluck Jonathan? Here is impunity, tyranny and fiscal irresponsibility all walking on four legs right before all of us, and these arm-chair critics have suddenly disappeared? Where are those people who usually quote the laws and all the sections of constitutions to justify their partisanship on matters of national interest? Who will liberate Nigerians from this tyranny? Have you all gone deaf and dumb that you can no more speak truth to power?

President Buhari is betraying the oath of office he took in a very painful manner. Worst still is the inability of the leadership of our legislature to stand and protect our democracy. These are sad times for democracy in our nation.

DasukiGate Doesn’t Exist, It's Witch-hunt.-Dokpesi

 DasukiGate Doesn’t Exist, It's Witch-hunt.-Dokpesi
Dokpesi, who is currently undergoing prosecution for allegedly receiving N2.1 billion from the office of the national security adviser (NSA) for the media campaign of the PDP, vowed that his party would fight what he described as injustice, till the very end.

He alleged that the current administration was taking Nigeria back to the era of dictatorship but said his party which is bent at the moment, would not be broken.

Dokpesi was speaking in Abuja on Wednesday after his investiture as the patron of the PDP Youth Vanguard and honour as ‘the freedom fighter of PDP’.

His words: "So much political water has passed under the bridge since the general election of 2015,
so much have been said about our members, many of whom have been publicly vilified even without being heard. Even as I speak to you now the relentless pursuit of our members across the country is being intensified and I can say to some measure of certainty that a lot more light in store for the PDP and its members. Our party, the People Democratic Party, played a key role in the entrenchment of democracy in the country.

“We will not be weakened or demoralised in playing our role as the important opposition voice which is very critical ingredient in any democratic state. We may be harassed, we may even be bent, but we are resolute and will not be broken.

“In the 16 years in power, it brought about major reforms in the economy, communication, technology and business which has today made Nigeria the biggest economy in Africa.

“The democratic freedom upon which the now ruling party rode to power is made possible by PDP government, which ensured fundamental human right of citizens to freely express themselves were guaranteed, even at the expense of its existence as the then ruling party.

“Legislation like freedom of information act are realities of the PDP government. And I dare say that even the EFCC, the ICPC, and all the agencies that are today said to be dealing with issues of corruption were brought in place by PDP government.

“I speak in regard to the several matters before the law court of our country concerning PDP members and especially my humble self on charges filed against us by the federal government.

“The provisions of section 287 of the constitution are very clear on the obedience of court orders by all arms of government.

“Having said so, I must assure you that there is nothing like the much flaunted $2.1 billion dollars arms deal, it does not exist. It’s a figment of the imagination of the current administration in an attempt to disseminate, misinform, destroy the very root of the PDP and you must stand, each and every one of you must stand for the Peoples Democratic Party.

“I have unshakeable faith that the youth are not just the future but the present of our dear country Nigeria, and must be active if the heart-felt democracy is to be sustained and protected.”

Dokpesi said his company has survived “oppression” from the powers that be in the past, and would remain alive to check “monstrous powers of the state”.

He added that the PDP would not go into extinction as a result of its current challenges.

“As I have said not too long ago we must stand resolutely united especially in the face of this momentary political adversity, for one thing I want to say again that the PDP is not dead, that the PDP is not dying, and the PDP will not die,” he said.
Dokpesi’s outburst is coming a day after his son, who is the  chairman of DAAR Communications, led top management to the villa to present a giant seasonal card to President Muhammadu Buhari.

See An App To Replace Your Selfie Stick

See An App To Replace Your Selfie Stick
A US-based developer has developed a camera app that lets a user take selfie or groupfie by just tilting his/her head and without a physical selfie stick.Named as “Selfie Stick“, the app is designed by San Diego-based iOS developer Ford Davis who reckons that the need to carry an extra bit of kit just to snap a selfie could be reduced with better self-timer software, TechCrunch reported on Tuesday.
“Selfie Stick is a virtual selfie stick that lets you take photos without using your hands, and without the need for a physical selfie stick, bluetooth trigger or headphone jack by using face detection magic,” the app details on Apple store.

Davis’s app has a free face-detecting feature that starts the timer as soon as a user tilts the head.

To take a photo, the user has to tilt his/her head till a green circle is fully drawn on the screen.

After the face is locked in, the green colour of the circle starts changing through orange to red to show the user how much time is left before the shot will be taken.

The app is a little glitchy at the introductory version (v1.0) as it requires extensive head tilting to trigger the timer.

Davis admitted that the app is not flawless.

“I am not funded, I do not have a company or any employees so I’m not technically even a startup, just a guy with a Macbook and some crazy ideas,” he said.

Also, if the user is not holding the phone in his/her hand, it has to be “mounted on a tri-pod or leaned against something”.

This may not persuade selfie stick loyalists to switch to this app.

The physical selfie stick follows other software self-timer apps that have voice-triggered options, and apps that snap a shot when you smile.

Signs to know if a relationship is working or not”

Signs to know if a relationship is working or not”
But if you’ve entered the so-so zone, thinking your relationship’s not bad enough to leave but are not enthusiastic about the future, then it might be an indication that you’re not as compatible as you thought.

Relationship experts agree that it may be time to go when you only share one or two things in common, a hobby, sex or the dog. You are doing all the work to solve the relationship’s problems. Your partner is unwilling to change or compromise. They don’t think you have any problems even though you’ve confessed you’re not happy. He or she treats you badly. You love them but don’t like them much.

It sounds bizarre, but love isn’t a reason to stay together. You can love your partner on one level but still not be suited long term. If you’ve been with a person a long time, of course you still care desperately about them and have lots of shared history and good times. But if your head tells you you’re not only both moving in entirely different directions but very happy about where you’re headed, it’s time to kiss each other tenderly and change the relationship to friendship.

Read Obi’s Question

I’m currently in a relationship and fancy my boyfriend to bits. I met him toward the end of last year and he says he loves me too. My relationship before then was a big dent in my self-esteem.

Despite my ex’s professed love for me, he didn’t hesitate to drop me when he found a new lover. Was I blind or was he the rat? I didn’t see the break-up coming and I would love to know the things to look out for when a relationship is not working.

Nigerian Woman Develops Application To Reduce Africa's Mortality Rate

Nigerian Woman Develops Application To Reduce Africa's Mortality Rate
A young Nigerian, Miss Kesandu Nwokolo has developed a mobile phone application to help reduce infant and maternal mortality in Africa. According to a statement obtained by NAN in Lagos, the innovative healthcare app would revolutionise the health sector in Nigeria and Africa.

The application developed by Nwokolo and her team is called ”CradleCount”.

The statement noted that about six out of 10 women have their babies at home, where the delivery was not supervised by a skilled birth attendant. Errors in estimating the expected date of delivery could lead to the baby being delivered supposedly unexpected.

“This is the problem faced by pregnant women in Nigeria and many parts of Africa, if this is not addressed, there will be increased pregnancy related complications resulting in more maternal and infant mortality.

“This is where technology and innovation come in. Seeing these shocking statistics and challenges faced by pregnant women led to the development of the mobile phone application, CradleCount.

“CradleCount helps pregnant women and also health practitioners to calculate accurately the expected date of delivery using the last menstrual period. “The app informs pregnant women how many days to the delivery of the baby and has alerts that remind pregnant mothers to register and follow up with their antenatal care.

“It also sends regular pregnancy and health tips to expectant mothers and the app can also work without an internet connection,” it said.

The App is well designed with good aesthetic values and nice background colours. The expectant mothers can change the background of the app depending on the sex of the baby they are expecting.
The 10th edition of the Headies award held at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, but the award pretty much ended on a sour note after Mavin boss and YBNL boss got into a nasty fight because Lil Kesh of the YBNL lost the Next Rated Award for 2015 category to Reekado Banks of the Mavin which started a beef between the record label CEOs.

I think we the fans are begging for answers based on this beef...

Olamide, when his artist Adekunle Gold won the award for Best Alternative act for his song, Shade
climbed the stage with his whole to address what he felt was an injustice to Lil Kesh, said some unpleasant things threw the mic on the floor and stomped off the stage and Don Jazz, who had been given a Special Recognition award at the end of his acceptance speech, urged Olamide to come take the car that came with the award in question.

1. Don Jazzy not making his beats, rather, he pays people to do it and take all the credit – as revealed by Olamide.

2. Headies Awards has been compromised
Going back to 2014 Headies, Reekado Banks won the Rookie of the Year award without having a song to be nominated with, but his input with Mavin Song - Dorobucci.

3. Olamide has let go of the fact that D’banj producer, Deevee accused him of stealing the Kokomaster's songs. This can be seen in how Olamide dragged D’banj into his rant?

4. Don Jazzy is an attention seeker who is not humble at all as he pose to be – as revealed by
Olamide.

5. Olamide actually care about the feelings of his fans. This seen in the way he was quick to apologize to them for his very unruly and unacceptable conduct at the awards.

EFCC Starts Phase2 of The $2.1bn Arms Deal Hunt

EFCC Starts Phase2 of The $2.1bn Arms Deal Hunt
**Okonjo-Iweala, former Service Chiefs to be Picked Up*
A second round of investigation into the $2.1billion arms deals begins on Monday with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) ready to hit hard on the so called big thieves.

Top of the probe agenda is how the Jonathan Administration spent €3,654,121million to purchase security vehicles for the Republic of Niger in October 2013 and April 2014.

The cash was withdrawn from the ONSA account in two installments of €1,401,869 and €2,252,252.25.

The commission is also seeking to verify whether or not the vehicles were bought and under what diplomatic or bilateral security cooperation.

It was gathered that it would require finding out from the Republic of Niger if there was such assistance from Nigeria.

The agency plans to quiz a number more public figures including Minister of Finance in the Jonathan administration, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, some ex-Service Chiefs and serving military officers in connection with the $2.1billion arms deal.

Some suspects may be taken into custody in the process, sources hinted The Nation.

The EFCC, it was gathered, is through with the first phase of the probe of the arms deals which led to the arraignment of ex-National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki and 10 others.

The interrogation of the likes of Dasuki and the others now facing trial or about to be arraigned seems to have convinced the agency of diging deper than originally planned.

A top source said: “We are beginning the second phase of the ongoing investigation of the $2.1b arms deals on Monday. From the preliminary findings, the scandal is mind-boggling.

“We are going to question more high-profile serving and former public officers, including a former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on the release of some funds.

“We want the ex-Minister to shed more light on how about $322million was disbursed to the Office of the National Security Adviser(ONSA).

“Some serving and former military chiefs will have to respond to issues which we have already isolated for clarification.”

The source said investigators have already obtained the list of military equipment which were bought and the inventory by the Armed Forces.

“This explains why some serving and former military chiefs will need to come and assist our investigators... Some of the companies which supplied these equipment have been contacted too.”
