BREAKING News :APPEAL Court Declares Alex Otti winner of Abia governorship election( See how)

The Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri today ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to arrange the swearing in of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the April 2015 governorship election in Abia State Dr Alex Otti as the governor of Abia State.

The Five member panel of Justices which were made up of two Female Justices and three Male Justices ruled that the November 3rd Judgement of the Justice Usman Bwala led Abia governorship election petition tribunal which upheld the election of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was wrong and is hereby upturned.

17 issues were determined by the court with the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance Dr Alex Otti winning 16 out of the 17 Leaving Okezie Ikpeazu of the PDP with one issue which was resolved in his favour.

The presiding judge said the elections which were cancelled by the Returning Officer in the election remained cancelled because there were overwhelming cases of over voting in Obingwa Osisioma and Isialangwa Local Government areas.

On the testimony of the State collation agent for the All Progressives Grand Alliance Barr Ahamdi Emmanuel Nweke which was struck out by the tribunal on grounds that he lied on oath during Cross examination by Wole Olanipekun who was the Counsel to Okezie Ikpeazu, the Court ruled that Ahamdi Emmanuel Nweke never said he was a Lawyer in Nigeria.

The judge ruled that since the election of The three Local government areas were no longer on the figures, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance Dr Alex Otti scored the highest number of total valid votes count and that INEC should issue him with the Certificate of Return as the duely elected Governor of Abia State.

Suspected Criminal Escapes With Handcuffs On Way To Court In Lagos
There was confusion on Wednesday at the Tinubu area of Lagos Island, after a suspected vandal, Johnson Ede, jumped from a car conveying him and five others to a magistrates’ court.

Ede and other suspects were arrested for allegedly vandalising water pipes on Akin Adesola Street, VI and for stealing 350 metres of 12mm cables owned by Hitec Construction on December 28.
The bad guy, 32-year-old Ede escaped through the window of the moving car with a pair of handcuffs in his hand.

The names of others are: Emmanuel Peters, 29; Idris Adamu, 27; Mohammed Ahmed, 37; Salisu Adamu, 33; and 23-year-old Odichi Ochechi.

PUNCH learnt that a woman corporal was taking Ede, whose name appeared as the first defendant on the charge sheet, and the five others to court when the incident happened.

The officer was not assisted in chasing the fleeing suspect when she called for help from passersby.

When the other five suspects were subsequently arraigned before the court a few hours later, she narrated the incident to the presiding magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, who enquired about the whereabouts of Ede, whose name appeared on the charge sheet as the first defendant.

"The car was moving when he (Ede) jumped from the window and escaped with the handcuffs in his hands. I was shouting for help, but people did not respond. I decided to let him go so that the five others would not escape as well. We were almost at the court when he jumped down. I can’t explain how he managed to escape,” she said.

The remaining five suspects were arraigned on three counts bordering on vandalism and stealing by a police prosecutor, Inspector R.A. Odigie.

The rest accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and were admitted to bail by Owolabi, in the sum of N300,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

The case was adjourned till February 29, 2016 for further trial.

Do You Know How Bad Things Were Before Buhari Did TSA(Buhari asked)

Do You Know How Bad Things Were Before Buhari Did TSA(Buhari asked)
President Muhammadu has revealed that under the immediate past administration, the NNPC operated as much as 45 bank accounts while the Ministry of Defence had 70 different accounts.

Mr president said it was for this reason his government introduced the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

Responding to questions from a team of media executives, the president said, “The (economic) situation now is aggravated by the downturn in the petroleum industry. It is now $39 per barrel and we have debt servicing of about N1.5 trillion and we have commitments on the ground.

“We had to reorganise NNPC. We had to introduce the TSA. There were 45 accounts in the NNPC alone. Ministry of Defence had about 70 accounts. We have got about N1.5 trillion through the TSA.

“The oil downturn is very unfortunate for this government. Check previous records. Over 90 per cent (of the budget) was for recurrent expenditure. No country can develop without capital projects. We were in very bad shape”.

Buhari further said government parastatals would be realigned in view of the lesser number of ministries the country now has.

“The process of government agencies earning monies and spending them and giving government change will have to stop. All government monies have to be paid to the Federation Account and a budget submitted for their operations,” he added.

Davido and Family Accused of Child Abduction ( Details here)

Davido and Family Accused of Child Abduction ( Details here)
In a report considered to be shocking, pop star Davido and other members of his family have been accused of trying to abduct Davido’s baby girl Imade Adeleke from her mother Sophia Momodu.

According to a petition addressed to the director general National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and made available by Naij.com, the ‘Aye’ crooner’s sister Ashley Coco Adeleke and his father Mr Deji Adeleke yesterday, Tuesday, December 29, allegedly tried to travel to Dubai with the baby but were stopped by Mrs. Modupe Mofikoya, an immigration officer who attended to the Adeleke travelling party.

However Davido’s manager, Kamal Ajiboye, Davido’s manager has denied the allegations raised in the petition. Instead claiming that Imade’s mum was a drug addict. So the child had to be taken from her.

“The baby was taken away from her due induced drugs found in her (baby) system which she obivioly got through the mother’s breast. David’s family is only helping her and the baby,” he said. David’s family prevented him (David) from reporting her to the NDLEA and as we speak, the baby was recently treated in Dubai. The baby cannot even breathe properly. The family has done everything to take care of the mother and child. We rented an apartment for her and she gets three hundred thousand naira monthly as upkeep. What else will the family do? To be honest, not sane family will take a child away from the mother for no reason,” Kamal explained.

As more details of this story emerges, be rest assured that The herald will keep you updated.

December 30, 2016

The Director General

National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons

No. 2028 Delaba Street

Wuse Zone 5

FCT, Abuja

 Dear Madam,

PETITION AGAINST MISS ASHLEY COCO ADELEKE & MR ADEDEJI ADELEKE FOR ATTEMPTED CHILD TRAFFICKING AND ABDUCTION OF MISS AURORA IMADE ADELEKE

We act as Solicitors for Miss. Sophia Ajibola Momodu, (hereinafter referred to as our client) whose instructions we have to forward this petition to your esteemed Agency.

Our client, a 27 year old, is the biological mother of a baby girl with name, Aurora Imade Adeleke, who was born on the 14th day of May 2015. The baby’s father is Mr. David Adedeji Adeleke (aka Davido). The father and mother are unmarried.

On the 11th July, 2015, our client was tricked to visit the house of Mr. David Adedeji Adeleke’s half sister – Miss Ashley Coco Adeleke’s with her baby, Imade Aurora Adeleke. After getting to the house on Baderinwa Alabi Street, Lekki Phase I, Lagos, our client’s baby was forcefully taken from her and she was thrown out of the premises with the threat that she would be decisively dealt with if she ever bothered to return there. There were armed policemen in the premises and our client’s survival instinct prevailed on her to make her leave her breast suckling baby behind, with so much pain in her heart.

By daybreak on the next day, our client was again at Ashley Coco Adeleke’s house to take her baby, but she was prevented by armed policemen from gaining access into the house. She was again threatened and warned never to return for the child.

Since July 2015, our client, who has now become so disorientated, saddened and confused has been going to family members, including her cousin, Mr Dele Momodu, and other well meaning Nigerians to intervene and allow her get her baby back or at least allow her to be able to have access to and care for her daughter. This was frustrated by Coco Adeleke, David Adeleke and their father, Mr. Adedeji Adeleke. These people boasted to our client and all her family and friends that our client is a nonentity and of little substance in Nigeria. They also claim that they have the financial wherewithal and political and security clout to deal with her and her family anyhow and without any consequence with the aid of their brother and uncle, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, and other friends Mr Deji Adeleke purportedly has in government. In a bid to justify their actions, Mr Deji Adeleke and his daughter, Ashley Coco Adeleke, have been spreading several malicious and unfounded allegations about our client.

While the attempts at finding a peaceful and lasting solution were still ongoing, on Tuesday the 29th December 2015, Ashley Coco Adeleke and her father, Mr Deji Adeleke, tried to travel to Dubai with our client’s baby. The baby was meant to be flown out of the country with Nigerian and American passports. Prior to that date, our client and her cousin, Mr Dele Momodu, had gone to alert the immigration services at the Murtala Mohammed, Ikeja International airport of the likelihood of Ashley Coco Adeleke travelling with our client’s baby by pretending to be the Mother. Our client believes that her baby’s American passport was hidden and is now likely to be in possession of Mr Deji Adeleke or Ashley Coco Adeleke. It appears that the assistance of Emirates Airline was sought as the baby’s American passport was not produced in breach of aviation regulations. Neither was a letter of authority from the mother to confirm her consent to the trip produced despite the airline being alerted.

When Mrs. Modupe Mofikoya, the immigration officer who attended to the Adeleke travelling party accosted Ashley Coco Adeleke and asked for the mother of the baby, Ashley Adeleke claimed that she was the mother. Immediately, the immigration officer on duty collected her Nigerian international passport, she quickly absconded from the scene with the baby and her father, Mr Deji Adeleke, showed up shortly afterwards to try to clear his daughter’s mess.

Our client with the help of her family members, including Mr Dele Momodu, determinedly resisted the attempt by Miss Ashley Coco Adeleke and her father, Mr Deji Adeleke, from taking Aurora Imade Adeleke from Lagos yesterday. Our client believes that the pair are trying to take the child to America and thus put her out of the reach of the biological mother.

At the moment, Miss Ashley Coco Adeleke and our client’s daughter, Aurora Imade Adeleke

are still in Lagos and two of their respective international passports are in the custody of the airport immigration services. Our client’s fear now, is that Ashley Coco may use her Nigerian passport and Aurora Imade’s American passport to travel through other Nigerian or West African airports.

We know that the actions of Mr Deji Adeleke and Miss Ashley Coco Adeleke contravene many provisions of the law. One is Section 13 of the Childs Right Law 2007 of Lagos State (as adapted from the Federal Act), which guarantees Aurora Imade Adeleke’s right to parental care and protection. That law also forbids separation of a child from her parents. Another is Section 24 of the same law, which also prohibits abduction of a child from the lawful custody of her parents. Neither Mr Deji Adeleke or Ms Ashley Coco Adeleke has any lawful right to the custody of Aurora Imade Adeleke. Even the unmarried father, Mr David Adedeji Adeleke, only has limited rights to the child and certainly not to the exclusion of our client, the natural mother as the Adeleke’s are trying to do.

We are of the sound view that your Agency is the most viable organisation that can intervene in the plight of our client and save her from the untold trauma that she is going through in the hands of Mr Deji Adeleke and Ashley Coco Adeleke, who has her own child that she keeps with her. We have advised our client about the statutory powers of your Agency to potently investigate and enforce all the provisions of the law that deal with abduction and trafficking in persons.

We urge you to use your good offices to intervene in the case of our client and protect a baby who should still be under her mother’s care from being abducted and smuggled abroad.

We thank you.

Yours faithfully,

O. AJAYI & CO./Gbolaga Ajayi Esq.

Details From Buhari's Presidential Media Chat(Photos)

Details From Buhari's Presidential Media Chat(Photos)
President Muhammadu Buhari was very frank during his presidential media chat on Wednesday night as he tackled pressing issues confronting the economy and Nigeria at large. He said there is a possibility that he would stop Senators in their bid to spend a whooping N45billion to buy exotic cars in the name of committee works when the government has already given them vehicle allowance.

This is even as Buhari said he had earlier turned down a N400m car proposal for the presidency.

On the contentious issue of subsidy, Mr President said
"By the end of next quarter, you will not be talking of subsidy," adding that petrol will be selling less than the current N87 per liter even without subsidy, so there is no need for anyone to talk of subsidy.

On suicide bombings, he said "If this thing continues, Hijab would have to be banned." Unemployed youths who are seeking to benefit from the N5k stipend might be sent to farms for serious work.

Mr President also addressed issues on Sambo Dasuki, plight of the IDPs, Nnamdi Kanu, etc. It was sure a very interesting and frank chat that saw him speak without any theatrics and bogus promises.

Governor Ambode’s Convoy Arrested Airforce Cadets Who Lock A Boy In Car Trunk

Governor Ambode’s Convoy Arrested Airforce Cadets Who Lock A Boy In Car Trunk
The convoy of the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday apprehended two Airforce cadets in Mile 12 area of the State while dehumanizing an artisan, Dahiru Lawal for allegedly breaking the windscreen of a Chrysler Stratus car with registration number KRD 267 DV.

The cadets – Peters O. Solomon and Abdullahi Fahad, who claimed to be Airforce personnel attached to the Airforce Base in Ikeja, had forced Lawal in the boot of their car after dragging him on the ground for the said offence.

Governor Ambode, who was returning from an inspection visit to Agbowa in Ikorodu, saw the situation and swiftly intervened to save Lawal who was gasping for breath.
Governor Ambode wondered how such inhuman treatment could be meted to a fellow citizen just for slightly breaking the windscreen of a car.

When questioned by journalists, the cadets admitted putting Lawal in the boot of their car. The claimed that Lawal tried to escape after breaking the windscreen and ran into the nearby market where they eventually chased and apprehended him.

Peters said: “What happened is that the boy broke the windscreen in front of my car. When I stopped, I asked him to come, the boy ran away. We have to drag him back and put him in the boot.”

“I kind of threatened his boss that he is working with and when his boss came and looked at what he did to me, that was when I put him inside the boot for the remaining ones to go and call the boss. Not that I locked the boot, I only put him inside the boot, but I did not lock the boot,” he said.

Also Abdullahi said himself and Peters were along Mile 12 after visiting a friend when they heard a knack on their windscreen and they saw Lawal attempting to escape.

"We now run inside the market and dragged him (Lawal) down. I was even asking who he is working with because I want to see his Oga since I know he cannot repair my damaged windscreen. I want to see the man he is working with so that we can settle everything with him. I now told my colleague that we should hand him over to Airforce police at the Airforce Base,” Abdullahi said.

Lawal gave his own story
Narrating his ordeal in the hands of the cadets, Lawal who hails from Kaduna, said he mistakenly damaged the windscreen with the load he carried, and that he took to his heels because he was afraid of what they might do to him.

He said: “I ran into the market and they pursued me and caught me inside the market. They started beating me and dragged me to their car.”

“I ran because I was afraid of what the cadets might do to me, while my boss and people around begged on my behalf, but their pleas fell on deaf ears.”

“The police also came to plead with them to open the boot but they insisted on taking me away and it was at that point that the convoy of the Governor arrived to rescue me from the boot of the car where they kept me,” Lawal said.

He added that he lost his cell phone and the sum of N5,000 which he was having on him at the point that he was being dragged on the floor.

Governor Ambode has ordered that Airforce Officers be handed over to police for possible prosecution.

Abia State Governor Ikpeazu set to Dump TA Orji & Join APC

Abia State Governor Ikpeazu set to Dump TA Orji & Join APC
Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu is said to have concluded plans to join the ruling APC as soon as petitions challenging his victory as governor, are over and done with in court.

Sources say part of the deal for Ikpeazu to defect to the APC is to wedge his predecessor, Theodore Orji who is now a Senator and his son, Chinedum, who are believed to have sponsored his election and exerts great influence on his administration.

Ikpeazu is also said to be jittery that
some leading members of the PDP with massive followership in the state such as Chief Tony Ukasanya, Dr. Chris Adighije, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, among several others, have since defected to the APC and vowed to deliver the state to their new party. Besides, some ranking members of the PDP in the state have been severally reported of being unhappy with Ikpeazu’s alleged style of only patronizing his Obingwa kinsmen and have decided to remain in the party to teach him a lesson in 2019.

According to 247ureports, the governor has been meeting with APC chieftains and eminent Nigerians over his decision to dump the PDP on which he was elected to office. It was further gathered that ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo who recently visited Abia state for a burial ceremony at Abiriba from where he stormed Aba to commission some road projects, is also part of the dignitaries Ikpeazu had lobbied to help him ‘soften the ground’ for his entry to the APC.

The report say few weeks after assuming office, Gov. Ikpeazu already has some chieftains of the APC on his payroll including the State chairman of the party, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa who are said to be disposed to having the governor joining the party as soon as possible.

Ikpeazu is said to be optimistic that his deal with the APC would work out smoothly since the state party chairman, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa and the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Nyerere Anyim who is Gov. Rochas Okorocha’s ally, hails from the same Ngwa clan with him.

According to a chieftain of the APC in the state who pleaded anonymity:
“Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu knows he cannot win a second term if he stays in PDP. It is a fact that the APC will take over Abia state in 2019. This is why he is contacting APC chieftains. I assure you that Gov. Ikpeazu would have long defected to the APC, were it not for the election petition case filed by the APGA candidate, Dr. Alex Otti. As soon as the matter is over, Gov. Ikpeazu will join APC. You can take that from me.

“Gov. Ikpeazu has been a friend to the APC in the state. Have you seen where the APC leadership has ever criticized Gov. Ikpeazu or has he not done anything to warrant criticism from us in the opposition? We take him as one of us.”

Zakzaky The Shi’ite Leader Has Been Treated; Charged To Court & Remanded In Prison (See Details)

Zakzaky The Shi’ite Leader Has Been Treated; Charged To Court & Remanded In Prison (See Details)
*He Ran A Parallel Government for 40 Years; says Gumi
Leader of the Shi’iteite Islamic sect, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky has been remanded in prison custody by a chief magistrate. He was arraigned at the Chief Magistrates’ Court 1, Zaria Road, Kaduna and charged with criminal conspiracy and inciting public disturbances.

Some of his supporters were arraigned along with him.

Police spokesperson Olabisi Kolawole confirmed the new development. She said:
“The Shi’ite leader has been arraigned at a magistrates’ court and charged with criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbances, among others. He has been remanded in prison custody and the case adjourned.”

Recall that Zakzaky was arrested after his members blocked the path of the Chief of Army Staff in Zaria, that led to a clash with soldiers. Many sect members were killed.

Army Chief Lt.-Gen Tukur Buratai said last week that he was no longer in the custody of the army, but with the agency of government responsible for prosecution of suspects.

Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase confirmed that the Islamic leader was with them.

In his reaction to the saga, Kaduna-based Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi has alleged that Sheikh El-Zakzaky ran a parallel government in the North for 40 years.

Addressing reporters on Tuesday, Gumi said: “The Shi’ites have been embarking on military training and producing cadets and soldiers. They are operating a state within a state.”

According to him, “the Islamic Movement of Nigeria does not recognise the corporate entity of the country. The group is not registered. Members operate above the law and get direct foreign aid.”

Gumi said ex-President Umaru Yar’adua told him of the massive importation of arms and ammunition in parts of the country, citing Iran as a supplier of arms to the Shi’ites.

The doctor-turned Islamic scholar said the clash between Shi’ites and soldiers was “a divine intervention to prevent us from a catastrophe as that of Boko Haram."

Nnamdi Kanu the Biafra Leader Finally Begs President Buhari

Nnamdi Kanu the Biafra Leader Finally Begs President Buhari
Leader of the so called Indigenous People of Biafra and founder of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has begged President Muhammadu Buhari for referring to him as a terrorist, evil and a paedophile in his radio.

Kanu, who has been charged along with two others by the Federal Government before a Federal High Court in Abuja on six counts of treason and other ancillary offences, confessed that he now intended to write a private letter to Buhari to express his apology to the President.

He also apologised to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and Igbo elders for “some uncomplimentary things” he said about them.

The 48-year-old pro-Biafran agitation leader, who is still unapologetic about his demand for a Biafra, has been in the custody of the Department of State Services since his arrest in Lagos on October 14, 2015.

He tendered the apology for his comment against Buhari and others in a statement he made to the DSS.

The prosecution, in its summary of the case, alleged that in one of the radio broadcasts by Kanu on August 1, 2015, he expressed his resolve to actualise the Republic of Biafra and “cast aspersions on the person and the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

The statement read in part, “Reference to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a terrorist, evil and a paedophile is regrettable and uncalled for and for that, I unreservedly apologise and will be doing so in a private letter to the President.

“Before PMB (President Muhammadu Buhari) there was the administration of Goodluck Jonathan. I also said uncomplimentary things about him and Igbo elders as well, which I now recognise should not have happened because it is un-African to be rude or insolent to elders.

“All I was trying to do is to draw attention to the problems afflicting society and something done about them.”
